Coming into a pit stop along the Ride for the Feast
2 DAYS | 140 MILES | ONE CAUSE
I am gearing up for my 14th Ride for the Feast a 2-day, 140-mile Maryland bike ride from Ocean City to Baltimore City, May 13-14, 2017.
I'm doing this Ride to raise money for Moveable Feast, the only Maryland nonprofit that delivers healthy meals to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Our services are provided in Baltimore City, the 5 surrounding counties and on the Eastern Shore, all at no cost to our clients. Last year, Moveable Feast delivered 784,226 life-saving meals to 5,455 Marylanders. This ride is also symbolic - the fundraising minimum of $1,500 equals the amount it costs to feed one client for a year. 140 miles represents the furthest distance Moveable Feast travels to deliver to a client.
With your help, we are working to deliver 1 million meals in a single year – each one made and delivered with love. 100% of your donation goes directly back into the services provided to our clients. Your support will aid thousands of our neighbors here in Maryland.
“Moveable Feast is more than just the nutrition that they give you food-wise; they give you spirit. It changes your life.” Marvin, a Moveable Feast client.
Moveable Feast does so much for the clients. Aside from the life-saving work they do, the drivers that deliver meals are sometimes the only contact that the clients receive. They are the first to be aware of any changes in a client that could indicate a decline in the clients health or mood. They report concerns back to Moveable Feast but sometimes the drivers can provide exactly what the client needs by just having a conversation or giving a hug. But the work of Moveable Feast also helps those that do it and those of us that help them by volunteering and fundraising. That's just one (selfish) reason that I do this Ride. It makes me feel good. Of course, it only makes me feel good because it is the right thing to do.
I am extremely grateful to the support from so many towards this important cause and I hope I can count on your support again, large or small, for my 2016 Ride for the Feast.
