Eight years ago I participated in my first ever Moveable Feast bike ride, a ride lasting over two days, traveling 140 miles from Ocean City, Maryland to Baltimore City, Maryland. At the end of my first ride, a debriefing among participants was held. Seeing the raw emotion and commitment on the faces of those I rode with left a lasting impression, this is when I knew Moveable Feast was something I would become a part of. I began by delivering meals in Baltimore every Friday morning, since then I have joined Dining Out for Life Committee and consider myself a strong advocate for giving to those in need.
This ride is a symbol of hope for people that are suffering from life-threatening illnesses in not only the Baltimore City area, but the surrounding five counties, along with the entire Eastern Shore. Moveable Feast is the only non-profit organization in Maryland that provides nutritious meals and other services at no cost to our clients. Registration fee, gear, and any other outside cost is covered in full by participants like myself. However, ALL money that is donated towards my goal of $1,500 will be allocated towards clients in need. In 2018, Moveable Feast served 743,940 meals to 6,060 clients, but the work is far from finished.
To put some perspective- the fundraising minimum of $1,500 equals the food costs to feed one client for a year. 140 miles represents the furthest distance Moveable Feast travels to deliver to a client.
