In 2010, Jen was the rider and I volunteered driving a support vehicle (with a baby carrier in the back).
Maybe you want to donate? Maybe you want to ride with us? Maybe both?
There are a lot of impressive things about this event, but never cease to be amazed at the fact that 100% of the money raised goes directly to services. Your support will aid thousands of our neighbors here in Maryland.
Thanks so much for checking this out. This participant page comes with a great explanation of the ride and the cause so donors can learn about it, but I want to start by talking about why I think Moveable Feast is so great. There are a lot of worthy charities and a lot of charity events. Something that never ceases to amaze me is how much Moveable Feast accomplishes with what it has.
Ride for the Feast is a 2-day, 140-mile Maryland bike ride from Ocean City to Baltimore City, May 14-15, 2016.
I have been involved with this event in some way or another since 2008 (rider, fund raiser, support vehicle, bike tech). But I haven't been a rider in a few years.
This year I am returning to the ride. Moveable Feast is an amazing organization and I'm proud to be associated with them. Their mission is important and they operate like a well-oiled machine.
I've helped pack food to be delivered, I've sit in on a few meetings planning the ride in the past, and most recently I volunteered doing food delivery. This ride is their biggest fundraiser every year. It's supported by volunteers and donations so 100% of the money donated goes directly to feeding their clients.
For all the years I've participated, Last year is the FIRST time I've been able to meet my INDIVIDUAL fundraising goal. I work with a team and we organize events and we have met our TEAM goal each year, but I really want to reach my OWN goal. $1500 is the amount of money that Moveable Feast needs to feed one client for one year. That is a very attainable goal.
To show my commitment to the ride and to try to make up for (hopefully) any shortcomings. I've also decided that for every $100 that I fall short, I will volunteer one day prior to next years ride. I know that time is valuable, but this is also the biggest fundraiser they hold each year, so I'd really like to (with your help) meet my personal fundraising goal.
The event raises money for Moveable Feast, the only Maryland nonprofit that delivers healthy meals to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Our services are provided in Baltimore City, the 5 surrounding counties and on the Eastern Shore, all at no cost to our clients. Last year, Moveable Feast delivered 784,226 life-saving meals to 5,455 Marylanders. This ride is also symbolic - the fundraising minimum of $1,500 equals the amount it costs to feed one client for a year. 140 miles represents the furthest distance Moveable Feast travels to deliver to a client.
With your help, we are working to deliver 1 million meals in a single year – each one made and delivered with love. 100% of your donation goes directly back into the services provided to our clients. There are a lot of impressive things about this event, but never cease to be amazed at the fact that 100% of the money raised goes directly to services. Your support will aid thousands of our neighbors here in Maryland.
“Moveable Feast is more than just the nutrition that they give you food-wise; they give you spirit. It changes your life.” Marvin, a Moveable Feast client.
